"Weaving Worlds Together: Building on the Success of You, Me, Creativity Through Social

Prescribing and Traditional Irish Crafts"

The You, Me, Creativity project was a pilot initiative designed to provide Social Prescribing service users with opportunities to engage in creative activities that could support their health and well-being. The project also aimed to evaluate and report the outcomes, challenges, and key learnings from the programme’s delivery.

Guided by a steering group, this initiative fostered collaborative partnerships to ensure service users and the wider community benefited from the programme. The pilot was a collaboration between Kerry County Council Arts Office, The National Forum of Family Resource Centres Mental Health Project, HSE Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, HSE Health Promotion, the Creative Ireland Kerry Office, and the four Family Resource Centres in Kerry delivering Social Prescribing Services.

During Autumn/Winter 2023, You, Me, Creativity delivered a range of tailored arts and creativity-based activities, engaging up to 400 participants across the county. Evaluation and reporting took place in 2023 and 2024, and the insights gained led to a successful application to expand the project in 2025/26. This next phase, The Weaving Worlds Together Project, has secured funding through the Creative Ireland Shared Island Fund. The partnership has also grown to include the Healthy Living Alliance in Northern Ireland, alongside four regional Social Prescribing projects.

The Weaving Worlds Together project focuses on preserving traditional Irish crafts, celebrating their role in history and culture and how they have brought communities together. The workshop series will include Basket Weaving/Willow Weaving, Ceramics, and Textiles, allowing participants to explore creativity while supporting their health and well-being. Between April and October 2025, workshops will occur at seven Family Resource Centres and Healthy Living Centres across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. These activities will be made available through Social Prescribing Services at the centres.

Social prescribing is a non-clinical intervention that connects individuals to community-based activities. It addresses the social and emotional factors influencing health and well-being. Weaving Worlds Together is an innovative approach to social prescribing, building on the success of You, Me, Creativity in 2023.

The project is operated under the Creative Ireland Kerry Programme, coordinated by the Kerry Arts Office in Kerry County Council. Creative Ireland Kerry supports the county’s unique creative sector, providing meaningful opportunities for local communities to engage with creativity and fostering pathways to enhanced well-being through the arts.
